Relocation Policy & Budget

In recent conversations with some of our new start up clients the question of relocation policy arose. Our advice is to implement a relocation policy as part of the wider Company Strategic HR Policy; implementation and promotion of same can be a great advantage in attracting and retaining key talent for the company. When a company makes the decision to relocate an employee / employee plus family the goal is to have a seamless process and working with Corporate Relocations ensures this is well organised, within budget and stress free.

When creating a relocation policy, the company can set criteria based on seniority of position; this can be for any new hires or in the instance of relocating employees on assignment.


A point of reference when developing a policy can include noting services the assignee may require - household goods movement, serviced accommodation at destination, permanent home search, school search, spousal assistance, visa assistance, language training, cultural training. Clients at the outset should engage relocation management company to have an overview of the suite of services on offer and estimated costs.


In our experience and in line with global mobility industry standards it is advisable to set budget for new hires once an offer has been extended / accepted by a candidate; for relocating an employee on assignment we would advise setting the budget once a detailed analysis of needs has been completed by the company in liaison with Corporate Relocations. Once an analysis of needs has been completed, we advise our client in terms of costings. The policy terms are important to ensure there is full control of costs for all parties.


Each assignee is unique and should be reviewed on a case-by-case basis; some assignee requirements are straight forward and some more complex; this will all come to the fore in the assessment of needs once completed.
